Making money on an OSRS Ironman is a different game from main-account gp grinding. You can't trade, you can't use the Grand Exchange, and you can't buy gold from a service. Every coin in your stack has to come from a drop, a quest, a shop sell, or a High Alchemy cast. This guide covers 20+ methods that actually work in 2026, sorted by where you are on the account.
If you're brand-new to the mode, also read our OSRS Ironman beginner guide first — it covers the account-creation rules, restrictions, and the early questing path you'll lean on for cash.
How Ironman money making actually works
There are only three places coins enter your stack as an Ironman:
- High Alchemy. Turn an item into coins at 60 % of its store value, minus a ~200 gp rune cost per cast. Unlocked at 55 Magic. This is the main pipeline for almost every mid-late game moneymaker.
- NPC fixed-price shops. A handful of NPCs buy specific items at fixed rates that don't decay with overstock. Ali Morrisane buys runes, Grum buys jewellery, the Lesser Fanatic buys ecumenical keys, Martin Thwait buys bulk skilling junk at high alch value.
- Direct coin drops. Bosses, Slayer monsters, pickpocket targets, and clue scroll caskets drop coins outright.
Most efficient methods combine two of these — for example, killing Vorkath drops alchable adamant and rune armour (high alch pipeline) plus direct coin drops. Keep that frame in mind: every method below is just a different on-ramp into one of those three flows.
Early game money making (under combat 60)
Stronghold of Security — 10,000 gp one-time
The classic starter cash pile. Enter the dungeon at the Barbarian Village mine, descend through four floors, answer the security questions, and claim 2,000 gp from each floor for a total of 10,000 gp plus a Skull sceptre (4-charge teleport). Bring food — the lower floors are aggressive multi-combat zones with level 12–48 monsters.
Heads up: Jagex now requires two-factor authentication on your account before they'll release the rewards. Set up a Jagex Account, RuneScape Authenticator, or Steam Guard before you start the run, or you'll do the dungeon for nothing.
Wintertodt — supplies plus 100k+ gp/hr
The wiki's #1 ranked early Ironman method. At 50 Firemaking you unlock the Wintertodt minigame in northern Great Kourend. You don't need food or potions — Hardcore Ironmen need to be careful (it's flagged as dangerous), but the activity itself is free supply farming: cooked food, herbs, gems, ores, runes, seeds, and bauble drops.
For pure gp this isn't a top-tier method. For an Ironman, the supply economy it generates (free food + free potion seconds + free runes) is worth several hundred thousand gp per hour in saved spend.
Stealing Valuables (Aldarin Villas) — 49+ Thieving
Released with the Varlamore expansion. At 49 Thieving you can steal from the chests, wardrobes, and jewellery cases in the Aldarin Villas estate, generating gp and bulk alchables faster than knight pickpocketing. This is the modern replacement for the old Ardougne Knights grind.
Crafting gold amulets and gold necklaces — 8+ Crafting
Mine gold ore at the Crafting Guild (40 Crafting) or the F2P Falador east bank, smelt into gold bars, then craft jewellery using moulds bought in Al Kharid. Sell the finished necklaces and amulets to Grum's Gold Exchange in Port Sarim.
| Item | Crafting level | Sells to Grum for | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold ring | 5 | 245 gp | No mould required for ring; uses ring mould |
| Gold necklace | 6 | 315 gp | Needs necklace mould |
| Gold amulet | 8 | 245 gp | Needs amulet mould + ball of wool to string |
Per-piece prices drop as Grum's stock fills, so don't dump 200 amulets in one trip. Sell in batches of 25–50 and let the stock decay between visits. This is one of the few F2P-friendly early methods that scales — see the F2P section below for more.
Pyramid Plunder — 31+ Thieving
After completing the Icthlarin's Little Helper quest, head to the Jalsavrah pyramid in Sophanem. Loot urns, sceptres, and the grand gold chest. The further into the pyramid you can reach (level 91 Thieving for the final room), the better the gp and Pharaoh's Sceptre drop chances.
Mid-game money making (combat 60-90, levels 60-80)
Hallowed Sepulchre — 52+ Agility
The 2020 addition to Darkmeyer that the OSRS Wiki Ironman money guide calls out as a primary mid-game cash source. Five floors that scale with your Agility — 52 unlocks floor 1, 62 unlocks floor 2, 72 floor 3, 82 floor 4, 92 floor 5. Loot the coffins for hallowed marks (cosmetics shop) plus stacks of gp, alchable equipment, and ranger boots.
Per the wiki: "rewards the player with large quantities of alchables and gold not offered by other courses." Translation — for an Ironman this is both Agility XP and a steady alch pipeline.
Tempoross — 35+ Fishing
Released March 2021. The skill-based fishing boss in Tempoross Cove gives raw and cooked fish, spirit flakes (food saving), big harpoons, dragon harpoons (rare), and the Fish barrel for Ironman QoL. Combat-stat-free, so it's accessible to skiller-style accounts.
Guardians of the Rift — 27+ Runecraft
Released March 2022, GotR is now the meta way to train Runecraft as an Ironman. Each game produces multiple rune types (including stacks of bloods, souls, deaths, naturas), plus Abyssal pearls for the Raiments of the Eye outfit and Catalytic talisman.
The runes you produce here feed directly into your Magic training (alching) and combat (high-tier spellbook). Excess bloods and souls go straight to Ali Morrisane.
Ecumenical Keys → Lesser Fanatic — 60+ recommended
Ecumenical keys drop from monsters in the Wilderness God Wars Dungeon, east of the Forgotten Cemetery. Best targets are the imps (weakest), with goblins, icefiends, and pyrefiends as backups. Important: ecumenical keys are not alchemisable — older guides incorrectly say to High Alch them.
After completing the Hard Wilderness Diary, sell each key to the Lesser Fanatic in Edgeville for 61,500 gp. Without the diary, the keys are best used as instant entry to Kree'arra or Commander Zilyana to skip GWD kill count.
| Wilderness Diary tier | Max keys carried | Lesser Fanatic trade |
|---|---|---|
| None / Easy | 3 | Locked |
| Medium | 4 | Locked |
| Hard | 5 | 61,500 gp/key |
Blackjacking Menaphite Thugs — 65+ Thieving
Complete The Feud quest, head to the Pollnivneach bar, and pickpocket Menaphite Thugs after knocking them out with a blackjack. Fast Thieving XP plus a steady gp drop and clue scrolls. Bandits at 45 Thieving are the introductory version with worse rates.
Equip rogue equipment (from the Rogues' Den minigame) for double-loot rolls — optional but worth the detour. The hard Ardougne Diary boosts pickpocket success globally and raises the coin pouch limit to 84.
Endgame money making (combat 90+, levels 80+)
Vorkath — the post-quest farm
After Dragon Slayer 2, post-quest Vorkath is one of the highest gp/hr methods available to a soloable boss. Recommended setup:
- 90+ Ranged or Magic
- 75+ Defence
- Salve amulet (ei) for the +20 % damage and accuracy bonus
- Full anti-dragon protection (anti-dragon shield or Dragonfire ward) plus an extended antifire potion
Vorkath is instanced and has a deathbank — Torfinn returns your items for 100,000 gp on death. Drops include adamant and rune dragonhide bodies (alchable), dragon bones (Prayer XP), and rare unique drops like the Vorki pet, Dragonbone necklace, and Jar of decay.
Slayer — the long-tail Ironman gp engine
Slayer is the OSRS Wiki's recommended primary endgame Ironman cash source: "Many Ironmen generate a significant amount of coins while farming kills for rare drops." High-value Slayer task targets:
| Monster | Slayer level | Headline gp source |
|---|---|---|
| Alchemical Hydra | 95 | Hydra leather, dragon thrownaxes, ferocious gloves piece drops |
| Cerberus | 91 | Primordial / Pegasian / Eternal crystals (megarares) |
| Kraken | 87 | Trident of the seas, Kraken tentacle |
| Smoke devils | 93 (Thermo) | Occult necklace, Dragon chainbody |
| Abyssal demons | 85 | Abyssal whip (~1/512), bludgeon piece (Sire only) |
Use the Slayer helmet (+15 % accuracy and damage on task) and lock low-value tasks via your Slayer master to keep gp/hr efficient.
Zalcano — skilling boss for crafting/mining/smithing supplies
Released July 2019 in Prifddinas. Requires Song of the Elves quest. Zalcano isn't a pure gp grind — she drops uncut gems, ores, plus Crystal tools fragments and a chance at the Smolcano pet. The shared mechanics make it solo or group friendly.
Rune Dragons — the Vorkath alternative
Same Dragon Slayer 2 quest unlock. Rune Dragons drop alchable rune armour and adamant javelins at high rates, plus the unique Dragon kiteshield ornament kit. Slightly lower gp/hr than Vorkath but works well as a Slayer-task overlap target.
Crafting Blood Runes — Arceuus 77+ Runecraft
At 77 Runecraft you can craft Blood Runes at the false Blood Altar north of Arceuus, no quest required. Approximately 38,000 Runecraft XP per hour at peak. Ironmen with stacks of Blood Runes can sell to Ali Morrisane (Ali's Discount Wares in Al Kharid) for 200 gp each (50 % of item value) — the price is fixed, no overstock decay.
The Rogue Trader minigame must be complete to unlock Ali's full shop. Bringing a Blood essence boosts crafting yield by ~50 % per essence. For an extra ~7k XP/hr, the Abyss path with achievement diary cape teleports works at slight PvP risk.
F2P Ironman money making
F2P Ironmen have fewer cash flows but the core ones still work:
- Mining iron ore at the Dwarven Mine, smelting steel bars, alching steel platebodies after 33 Magic. Steel platebodies high-alch for 1,200 gp each.
- Crafting gold necklaces and amulets → Grum's Gold Exchange (covered above).
- Runecrafting Air, Fire, and Body runes via the Abyss after the Enter the Abyss miniquest.
- Power-mining iron at the Falador east mine and selling to Ordan in the Blast Furnace area (members content but starting world is F2P-accessible).
F2P Ironman gp/hr is significantly lower than P2P — most committed Ironmen save up for a Bond before grinding extensively, since members unlocks Wintertodt, Tempoross, GotR, and the entire Slayer / boss content tier.
NPC shops every Ironman should know
| NPC / Shop | Location | Buys | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ali Morrisane (Ali's Discount Wares) | Al Kharid | Blood runes | 200 gp |
| Ali Morrisane | Al Kharid | Soul runes | 150 gp |
| Grum's Gold Exchange | Port Sarim | Gold/sapphire/emerald/ruby/diamond jewellery | 245–2,572 gp depending on item |
| Lesser Fanatic | Edgeville (Hard Wilderness Diary) | Ecumenical keys | 61,500 gp |
| Martin Thwait | Rogues' Den (50 Agility + Thieving) | Bulk skilling junk (lenses, unstrung bows, etc.) | High Alch value |
| Bandit Store | Wilderness Bandit Camp | Tiaras, unstrung holy symbols | ~120 gp each |
| Aubury | Varrock | Death runes (from kitten sales) | Variable |
What to do with all this gold
Ironman gp doesn't sit in your bank — it goes to:
- Death fees (Vorkath: 100k, raids: 100k+, deep Wildy: significant).
- Charter ship and Spirit tree fares.
- Construction supplies (mahogany planks at the Sawmill — gp sink for Construction training).
- Bonds — many Ironmen buy a Bond every 2 weeks from accumulated gp to keep membership active without needing real-money spend.
- Quest cash requirements (Heroes' Quest, Recipe for Disaster, Mourning's End, Song of the Elves).
The TL;DR Ironman gp playbook
If you're optimising for total gp velocity over an account's lifetime:
- Don't focus on gp early. The wiki Ironman money guide is explicit on this. Get questing capes, get 55 Magic for High Alchemy, get 50 Firemaking for Wintertodt. The methods that matter unlock at mid-game.
- Build your alch pipeline. 55 Magic → Wintertodt → Slayer task drops → alch the rune armour and battlestaves while running between banks.
- Lock in shop loops. Blood/Soul runes → Ali Morrisane. Jewellery overflow → Grum. Ecumenical keys → Lesser Fanatic (after Hard Wildy diary).
- Endgame is bossing-funded. Vorkath, Cerberus, Alchemical Hydra, and (eventually) raids replace skilling-only methods.
If you decided Ironman isn't for you and you'd rather skip the supply grind, we offer RuneScape gold, power leveling, fire capes, bossing, and questing services for standard accounts. Join our Discord server if you have questions or want to chat with other OSRS players.
