OSRS Slayer 1-99 Training Guide
Slayer is the OSRS skill that pays you to train combat. A Slayer master assigns a monster, you kill the assigned amount, you collect the XP, and along the way you build the Attack/Strength/Defence/Ranged/Magic/Hitpoints levels you would have ground anyway. The fastest 1-99 route in 2026 is bursting Smoke Devils with Ice Burst, the most profitable is taking boss tasks at Konar and Duradel, and the right master at the right combat level matters more than any single piece of gear. This guide walks you through every level bracket, every reward worth buying, and the exact monsters to chase or block.
Slayer XP Table — Level 1 to 99
Slayer XP is roughly equal to a monster's Hitpoints, so high-level Slayer monsters give substantially more XP per kill. Use the table below to plan your goals.
| Slayer Level | Total XP | XP to Next Level |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 83 |
| 10 | 1,154 | 184 |
| 20 | 4,470 | 506 |
| 30 | 13,363 | 1,388 |
| 40 | 37,224 | 3,809 |
| 50 | 101,333 | 10,455 |
| 60 | 273,742 | 28,162 |
| 70 | 737,627 | 75,127 |
| 75 | 1,210,421 | 122,675 |
| 80 | 1,986,068 | 200,239 |
| 85 | 3,258,594 | 326,851 |
| 90 | 5,346,332 | 533,535 |
| 93 | 7,944,614 | 793,425 |
| 95 | 9,684,577 | 967,388 |
| 99 | 13,034,431 | — |
Reaching level 99 from scratch takes roughly 13 million XP. With optimal bursting that's about 250-350 hours of game time; with profit-focused boss tasks it's closer to 600-900 hours but the gold more than covers the difference.
The 9 Slayer Masters Compared
There are nine Slayer masters in the live OSRS lineup. Two have lore-driven replacements (Aya replaces Turael, and Kuradal replaces Duradel after the events of While Guthix Sleeps; Achtryn temporarily fills in for Mazchna during that quest). The mechanics for each replacement are identical to the master they swap with, so the table below uses the original names you'll find on the Wiki.
| Slayer Master | Combat Req | Slayer Req | Points / Task | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turael / Aya | None | None | 0 | Skip-cycling unwanted tasks (no streak loss) |
| Spria | None | None | 0 | Same as Turael (after A Porcine of Interest) |
| Krystilia | None | None | 25 | Wilderness tasks, Larran's keys, fast points |
| Mazchna / Achtryn | 20 | None | 6 | Low-level start (after Priest in Peril) |
| Vannaka | 40 | None | 8 | Mid-level grind |
| Chaeldar | 70 | None | 10 | Solid mid-high XP (after Lost City) |
| Konar quo Maten | 75 | None | 18 (20 with Elite Kourend Diary) | Brimstone Keys for ~500k+ gp loot per chest |
| Nieve / Steve | 85 | None | 12 (15 with Elite Western Provinces Diary) | Closest to a teleport-and-bank, great mid-end |
| Duradel / Kuradal | 100 | 50 | 15 | Longest, hardest tasks — best XP per task |
Numbers verified from the OSRS Wiki Slayer master page. Diary perks for Konar and Nieve are worth chasing once you're settled at those masters — the extra points compound over the long grind.
Master to Use by Combat Level
| Combat Level | Recommended Master | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1-19 | Turael / Spria | Short tasks, no death risk; build first 5-task streak |
| 20-39 | Mazchna | Tasks close to Canifis bank; first real points |
| 40-69 | Vannaka | Long tasks, decent XP; no quest required beyond Priest in Peril |
| 70-74 | Chaeldar | Bigger XP rolls; unlock with Lost City |
| 75-84 | Konar quo Maten | Brimstone Keys add a passive 200-500k gp/hr |
| 85-99 (under 50 Slayer) | Nieve / Steve | Best master near a bank-and-teleport hub |
| 85+ (50+ Slayer) | Duradel / Kuradal | Longest tasks = best XP/hr ceiling |
Slayer Reward Points — What to Buy First
You start earning Slayer reward points after your 5th completed task in a streak. Every 10th, 50th, 100th, 250th, 500th and 1000th task pays a milestone multiplier on the master's base points — these compound fast.
| Streak Milestone | Multiplier × Base Points |
|---|---|
| Every 10th task | 5× |
| Every 50th task | 15× |
| Every 100th task | 25× |
| Every 250th task | 35× |
| Every 500th task | 50× |
| Every 1,000th task | 100× |
Spend your first ~2,000 points in this priority order:
- Slayer Helmet (Malevolent Masquerade) — 400 points. Requires 55 Crafting and 10 Defence to equip. Gives 16.67% melee accuracy and damage on-task. Single biggest DPS upgrade in the skill.
- Imbued Slayer Helmet — 500 points. Extends the on-task bonus to magic and ranged.
- Bigger and Badder — 150 points. Unlocks superior Slayer monsters (rare boss-tier variants with Imbued Heart, Eternal Gem etc. drops).
- Like a Boss — 200 points. Lets you receive boss tasks from Konar/Nieve/Duradel.
- Block slots — 100 points each. Block six slow/unprofitable tasks (see block list below).
- Slayer Ring (Eternal) — 750 points one-time. Unlimited teleports to Slayer locations.
Fastest Way to 99 Slayer — The Burst Route
Pure XP/hr Slayer in 2026 means bursting AOE-stackable monsters in multi-combat caves. The route below assumes you have Ancient Magicks, full Ahrim's or better, and a Bracelet of Slaughter to extend the long XP tasks.
| Slayer Level | Method | XP / kill | Approx XP / hr |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-40 | Slayer master tasks (no bursting yet) | varies | 10-25k |
| 40-70 | Cannon tasks at Vannaka | varies | 30-45k |
| 70-77 | Burst Dust Devils (Smoke Dungeon) | 110 | ~60-70k |
| 77-80 | Cannon Brutal Black Dragons (XP + profit) | 346.4 | ~50k + ~1.5M gp |
| 80-93 | Burst Nechryael (Catacombs of Kourend) | 105 | ~85-95k |
| 93-99 | Burst Smoke Devils (Smoke Devil Dungeon) | 185 | ~110-120k |
XP/hr ranges assume thralls (Arceuus 76+ Magic), full kit, and chinning when bursting becomes too expensive on rune costs. Bursting is rune-intensive — budget 800k-1.2M gp per hour at Smoke Devils. See our OSRS Magic Training Guide for unlocking Ice Burst at level 70 Magic.
Bracelets and the Cannon
Two charged bracelets shape your task economy.
- Bracelet of Slaughter — extends the current task by adding back kills (rolls a chance per kill not to count toward the task counter). 30 charges; equip on the long XP tasks (Smoke Devils, Nechryael, Abyssal Demons) to maximise time spent at the best monsters.
- Expeditious Bracelet — shortens the current task by occasionally counting bonus kills. 30 charges; equip on the slow tasks you can't be bothered to skip (Aviansie, Mutated Zygomites, low-yield Trolls).
- Dwarf Multicannon — drops effective task time by 30-50% on tasks where the cannon can hit multiple stacked spawns. Mandatory at Cave Horrors, Greater Demons, Bloodvelds and Brutal Black Dragons. Side benefit: 90-95 Ranged on the journey to 99 Slayer if you cannon every eligible task.
Best Slayer Tasks for Money in 2026
Profit Slayer plays differently from XP Slayer: no bursting (rune cost kills the margin), no cannon on tasks where the loot pile matters, and aggressive blocking of any task that doesn't drop a six-figure rare. The table below ranks the consistent gp/hr earners for late-game Slayer.
| Task | Slayer Req | Quest Req | Slayer XP / kill | Estimated GP / hr |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alchemical Hydra (Hydra task) | 95 | — | 1,320 | 4-5M |
| Vorkath (Blue Dragon task) | None | Dragon Slayer II | 750 | 3-4M |
| Cerberus (Hellhound task) | 91 | — | — | 2-4M |
| Demonic Gorilla (Black Demon / Monkey) | None | Monkey Madness II | 408.5 | 2-3M |
| Brutal Black Dragon (Black Dragon task) | 77 | — | 346.4 | 1.5-2.5M |
| Abyssal Demon (Sire chance) | 85 | — | 150 | 1-1.8M |
| Konar Brimstone Key tasks (any) | varies | — | varies | +200-500k passive |
Numbers above are 2026 community estimates from Wiki monster pages and competitor sources. Your actual rate depends on gear, kill speed and which rare you roll on. For broader context outside Slayer, see our OSRS Money Making Guide. Need to upgrade to a Ghrazi Rapier or Tumeken's Shadow before tackling Hydra or Vorkath? Probemas can deliver in under 15 minutes.
Quest Unlocks Worth Doing for Slayer
- Cabin Fever — unlocks Mos Le'Harmless, home to Cave Horrors (Slayer 58, drop Black masks at 1/512) and Jungle Horrors.
- Monkey Madness II — unlocks Demonic Gorillas, the source of Zenyte shards and Ballista limbs/springs.
- Dragon Slayer II — unlocks Vorkath and Rune Dragons.
- Lost City — required for Chaeldar and most fairy-ring travel.
- Priest in Peril — required for Mazchna and Morytania access.
- Lunar Diplomacy + Dream Mentor — unlocks Vengeance, NPC Contact, and the Lunar spellbook (Boost Potion Share, Cure Group, Stat Spy).
Block List and Skip Strategy
Block slots cost 100 points each and you unlock six total via quest points. The standard high-level block list below assumes Konar/Duradel as your home masters.
- Mutated Zygomites — slow, fungicide-locked, no profitable rares.
- Spiritual Creatures — low XP/hr, mid-tier loot at best.
- Aviansie — only worth it on a ranged-only build.
- Greater Demons — slower than Demonic Gorillas (Monkey Madness II) which can replace them.
- Fossil Island Wyverns — slow, requires Elemental Shield.
- Lizardmen — drop Xerician fabric and the rare Brawler Glove pieces, but consider blocking once you have all the unlocks you need.
Use Turael / Spria to skip tasks instead of blocking when the task is "merely annoying" rather than terrible — skipping at Turael resets the milestone counter only if you take a task; talking and walking away preserves your streak.
Slayer Helmet — Recipe and Why It Matters
The Slayer Helmet is the single highest-impact gear unlock in the skill. It combines all the Slayer-specific equipment into one slot AND grants a 16.67% accuracy and damage bonus to whatever combat style you're using on-task.
Requirements to make:
- "Malevolent Masquerade" unlock from any Slayer master — 400 Slayer reward points
- 55 Crafting (boosts work — Crafting cape, Mature Wine etc.)
- 10 Defence to equip
Components: Black mask + Earmuffs + Facemask + Nose peg + Spiny helmet + Enchanted gem (and Reinforced goggles after A Porcine of Interest). Total cost varies with the Black mask price but typically lands between 1-1.2M gp at GE. See our OSRS Crafting Training Guide if you're not yet at 55.
Imbue it for an additional 500 Slayer points to extend the bonus to magic and ranged — mandatory before bursting Smoke Devils or chinning Maniacal Monkeys.
Common Slayer Mistakes
- Skipping streak rewards. A 100th-task milestone at Konar pays 450 points (18 base × 25). That's more than a single block slot. Save your skips for genuinely terrible tasks, not "kinda slow" ones.
- Bursting before you have thralls. Arceuus 76 Magic + Resurrect Greater Ghost adds 12-20% more XP/hr at Smoke Devils. Get it before you settle in.
- Cannoning at Hydra or Vorkath. Cannons can't even hit them — and at Brutal Black Dragons, the cannon is the entire reason your gp/hr is 2x without it. Read the Wiki monster page first.
- Forgetting Konar's Diary perk. Elite Kourend & Kebos Diary bumps Konar's points from 18 to 20 per task — over 1,000 tasks that's an extra 2,000 free points.
- Not preparing for boss tasks. Vorkath, Hydra and Cerberus all hit hard — see our OSRS Prayer Training Guide for the prayer levels you'll want before sitting in a boss instance for an hour.
